Born From Cold Storage Industry
GDI started in giant freezer warehouses where forklifts move nonstop and every second a door stays open means lost energy. Traditional operators use chain and sprocket drive systems to move the heavy sliding doors found in cold storage environments. These mechanical systems are reliable and powerful, but they require precise alignment, regular maintenance, and protection from corrosion in extreme cold. Our answer: a 36 V brushless direct-drive operator designed specifically to power chain and sprocket applications with precision control and superior reliability—even in –40 °C environments.
GDI was born out of necessity, not convenience. In the unforgiving world of cold storage and freezer facilities, traditional door operators failed when they were needed most. At –40 °C, standard motors froze, gears locked, and chains rusted. Every breakdown meant wasted energy, lost product, and costly downtime.
So, a small team of engineers asked a daring question: What if we built an operator that would thrive in the harshest environments instead of fail in them?
From that question, the first GDI operator was born. Built to move massive sliding freezer doors weighing over 2,000 lbs, it had to be rugged, fast, and resilient for daily washdowns and freezing temperatures.
